Why Contribute?

  • The Cycle of Child Abuse Must be Stopped. Studies have shown that children, who are abused, often grow up to be abusers themselves. Child abuse also leads to crime, drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancies, and chronic health problems. Tragically, the majority of inmates on death row in this country's prison system were abused as children. Since the effects of child abuse and neglect are long-term, and have a direct and profound impact on our lives, our communities, and our country, eliminating the suffering of these children is critical.
  • Prevention is the Answer. It has been proven that prevention is the most effective way to truly diminish child abuse and neglect. For the past 25 years, our nation has been learning about the stark realities of child abuse and neglect. And, many new programs have been established to support and educate parents, strengthen families, and involve communities. Progress has been made. Illinois statistics have shown a decrease in child abuse and neglect in the past few years. But still, 103,513 children were reported abused or neglected last year in our state. This is tragic! More can, and must be done to prevent the cycle of child abuse.
  • 100% of Funds are Used for Community Prevention Programs. All money donated by taxpayers to the Illinois Child Abuse Prevention Fund is used to develop and expand community programs such as parenting education related to child abuse prevention; safety issues for children affected by child abuse and domestic violence; and public awareness and educational programs on child abuse prevention.
