Effects of Methamphetamine on Children

ACTIVITIES

The initiative draws on the particular areas of expertise, collaborative relationships, and community involvements consistent with the mission and current work of Prevent Child Abuse Illinois. As such its focus is specifically on how this drug is affecting families and children, how we can respond, and how we can prevent it from harming children. In general, the initiative helps facilitate and provide public awareness, training, and reference materials. It includes:

  • Participation with other statewide agencies in planning and developing a coordinated statewide response
  • Assistance in facilitating professional training in local communities
  • Provision of specific training concerning effects on families and children
  • Development and distribution of an educational brochure, The Effects of Methamphetamine on Children: Living in Danger
  • Provision or assistance in accessing reference materials
  • Specific public awareness and education efforts including media and presentations to community groups
  • Participation with community Methamphetamine Awareness Coalitions
  • Education about reporting to the Illinois DCFS hotline 1-800-25 ABUSE (1-800-252-2873) of a child's suspected exposure to methamphetamine
