Effects of Domestic Violence on Children
COLLABORATION
Prevent Child Abuse Illinois' Effects of Domestic Violence on Children Initiative draws on collaborative relationships,
specific areas of expertise, and community involvement consistent with our mission and current work. As such its focus
is specifically on how domestic violence affects children from birth to young adulthood, how we can respond, and how we
can prevent it from harming children. In general, the initiative will help to facilitate and to provide public awareness,
training and reference materials. It will include:
- Participation with other statewide agencies in planning and developing a coordinated statewide response.
- Assistance in facilitating professional training in local communities across the state.
- Providing specific training concerning the effects of violence on children and families.
- Distribution of an educational brochure: The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children: Living in Fear.
- Providing assistance in accessing reference materials local resources, and community services.
- Specific public awareness and education efforts including media and presentations to community groups.
- Participation with Safe from the Start Coalitions and other coalitions addressing the effects of domestic
violence on children
- Collaboration with the Family Violence Coordinating Council, Local Area Networks, DCFS, DHS and others to address family violence issues.
- Education about reporting to the Illinois DFCS hotline 1-800-25 ABUSE (1-800-252-2873) of a child’s suspected exposure to domestic violence.
