CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS

The goal of a Child Advocacy center is to help children who have been sexually abused and/or severely physically abused by providing a safe comfortable place to interview and support them.

Child Advocacy Centers are child friendly and offer a multidisciplinary team approach to the investigation of child sexual abuse.  This multidisciplinary interview team may consist of representatives from law enforcement, child protective services, prosecution, medical, mental health and victim advocacy.

The team approach minimizes the number of times a child victim is interviewed and helps minimize the trauma experienced by the child and non-offending family members.  The team will conduct an interview in a child friendly environment at a Child Advocacy Center.  Child Advocacy Centers put the needs of the child first.

It is also important to seek counseling in order to help the child recover and heal.  It may also help other non-offending family members heal as well.

For information about counseling and other resources contact your local CAC (Child Advocacy Center).
